Hello Everyone,
As Ramadan is upon us, we hope Allah accepts our prayers and worship. By now, most of us are probably getting used to fasting, and our bodies are adjusting to the reduced intake of food. It’s important to maintain a balanced diet to stay healthy, keep active, and fully experience the benefits of Ramadan. There’s no need to overeat during your pre-dawn (sahur) or evening (iftar) meals.
To achieve these health benefits, we should follow some simple, healthy habits. Let’s start with the basic yet essential part of any meal: water.
Water is incredibly important, but many people don’t drink enough. Often, people only have a little water during iftar and then forget about it until the next day. Considering that 60-70% of our body is made up of water, any decrease affects our cells and nerves, hindering proper function. Therefore, it’s crucial to compensate for water lost by drinking about 8 cups between iftar and the start of the next fast.
While other drinks may contain a lot of sugar and extra calories, drinking too many sugary or fizzy drinks can lead to digestion issues and a false sense of fullness, reducing digestion quality. If you’re used to consuming a lot of tea, coffee, or caffeine-rich drinks, try to cut down. Caffeine is addictive, and withdrawal can cause severe headaches.
Water aids in weight loss and maintenance by flushing out toxins and reducing hunger. For these reasons, it’s advisable to drink small amounts throughout the night.
Interesting tidbit: Breaking your fast with iced water won’t quench your thirst effectively; it contracts blood vessels and can cause indigestion. It’s better to drink water at room temperature or slightly chilled.
Stay hydrated and take care of your health to keep your mind strong and clear.
